Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course students will be able to (1) have a grasp of how first and second languages develop (2) how first and second language interact with each other (3) how second language has consequences on different aspects of cognition (4) develop skills to write critical short essays on the topic and present work

Course Content:

Many Languages, Many Minds course is designed to introduce undergraduate students to the field of multilingualism and consequences of multilingualism on selected topics such as cognitive development, intelligence and creativity. The course will first address milestones of early language development, key concepts of multilingualism and representation of languages. Then, taking a developmental approach the consequences of multilingualism will be investigated for selected topics. The course also presents cases from Turkey so that students will get acquainted with the empirical research in the field.
