We are delighted to invite you to the open discussion session “Social History in the Computational Turn”, organized within the framework of the Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Program (BIP) “Witchcraft on Trial: Analyzing Power, Justice, and Legal Narratives through Digital Tools.”

Jointly coordinated by the University of Vienna, University of Oslo, Bielefeld University, and Kadir Has University, the BIP week (27–31 October 2025) brings together students and instructors from four partner institutions to explore how digital humanities tools can reshape our understanding of historical justice, power, and narrative.

The open session will feature:

Prof. Dr. Juliane Schiel (University of Vienna) Introductory talk: “Social History in the Computational Turn”

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hanne Østhus (University of Oslo) & Asst. Prof. Dr. Müge Özbek (Kadir Has University), discussants

The discussion will reflect on the intersections between social history and computational methods, exploring how digital tools both expand and challenge the ways historians interpret the past.

All are warmly welcome to join us for this interdisciplinary exchange.
