At the conclusion of this course the student should be able to:
1. Have a solid understanding of the musical language to be able to express yourself fluently with other professionals
2. Have composed several projects for a small ensemble
3. Be familiar with the melodic, harmonic, rhythmic, structural, composing and arranging techniques particular to this idiom.
4. Be able to deal with the specified technical areas of functional and non-functional harmonization
Course Content:
The objective of this course is to introduce and develop a fundamental knowledge of jazz and contemporary music harmony, vocabulary and structure through the analysis of nomenclature, harmony, melody, rhythm and form. The student will also learn basic composing and arranging skills for the small ensembles using techniques that are common in jazz and contemporary music idiom.
