Course Objectives:

This course explores how digital tools can transform the study of humanities, focusing on geographic data analysis and visualization techniques. Students will use free softwares QGIS and QField, learn to analyze spatial data, and explore methods like 3D mapping and visibility analysis. The course emphasizes practical skills, critical engagement with digital methodologies, and interdisciplinary applications of spatial and historical data.

 

Course Content:

This course covers topics such as:

  • Basics of digital humanities and GIS.
  • Adding and manipulating vector/raster data.
  • Georeferencing historical maps.
  • Performing spatial analyses, including visibility and least-cost path analysis.
  • 3D mapping of vertical features for cultural heritage studies.
  • Data visualization for storytelling and research dissemination.
