Burak Basaranlar received his Ph.D. from the History Department of Binghamton University in Fall 2020. His expertise centers around the Ottoman Empire and the Modern Middle East, in addition to his training and interest in the History of the Soviet Union and Historical Sociology. His doctoral dissertation focuses on the state-building policies of the Republic of Turkey from 1925 to 1950, analyzing how the Republic’s nationalist agenda influenced the state-building process on the local level in Eastern Thrace and inner Eastern Anatolia. He was awarded merit-based grants and scholarships by the Turkish History Association, Fulbright, and Binghamton University. In 2020, he received Binghamton University’s Research in Excellence award. He presented his work at various international conferences. His works appeared in academic journals such as Middle Eastern Studies and Nationalities Papers. He previously worked at Binghamton University and Middle East Technical University, where he taught courses as a teaching assistant and an adjunct instructor. He also holds editorial experience since he worked as the graduate editor of the Journal of Ottoman and Turkish Studies Association (JOTSA).
