Kafka, Violence, and Memory: Dr. Deniz Gündoğan İbrişim Speaks at Mainz
20 November 2025
Our faculty member Dr. Deniz Gündoğan İbrişim presented a paper at the symposium organized by the Department of Turkish Studies and the Department of Comparative Literature at Johannes Gutenberg University (Mainz).
On November 14, Dr. İbrişim presented her work titled “Kafka’s Ghost on Trial: Literary Violence and Memory in Burhan Sönmez’s Lovers of Franz K.” Exploring concepts of “literary violence,” justice, and memory through Sönmez’s novel, this work offers a striking analysis of Kafka’s legacy and the Cold War Berlin atmosphere.
We are also pleased to announce that the papers presented at the symposium will soon be published as a special dossier.
