Our Faculty Member Dr. Deniz Gündoğan İbrişim’s Article, “Decolonizing Memory,” Published in the Journal Safundi (Q1)!

Dr. Deniz Gündoğan İbrişim, a member of our university’s faculty, has achieved a significant academic success by publishing her article, “Decolonizing Memory: New Animist and Relational Imaginaries in South Africa through Pamela Phatsimo Sunstrum’s Art and Koleka Putuma’s Poetry,” in Safundi (Q1), one of the most prestigious journals in the social sciences.

The article introduces an innovative approach to memory studies from a decolonizing perspective. Through the works of contemporary South African artist Pamela Phatsimo Sunstrum and the poetry of Koleka Putuma, the study argues that memory is not exclusively human, offering a critical alternative to Western-centric systems of knowledge.
